[English] Holy – Holy Spirit.

02 Oct

The main culprit of sanctifying Christians is the Holy Spirit. However, His activity is different from the Old Testament the Spirit of God. Abundance and universality of the gifts of the Holy Spirit means that fulfilled the messianic times from the day of the resurrection of Christ. His coming is associated with faith in the mystery of Christ dead and risen. His presence is persistent, and Paul states that the redeemed are “temples of the Holy Spirit”, “temples of God” (1 Cor 6, 11 20; compare: 1 Corinthians 3, 16 – 17), and that being in real communion with Him. Because “all of which animates the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Rom 8, 14 – 17), hence we can say that Christians are children of God, because of access to the source of the holiness of God.

BIBLE

Luke 1, 15
15 For he shall be great before the Lord and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

Luke 7, 28
28 For I say to you: Amongst those that are born of men, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist. But he that is the lesser in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

Acts 2, 16 – 38
16 But this is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel: 17 And it shall come to pass, in the last days, (says the Lord), I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And upon my servants indeed and upon my handmaids will I pour out in those days of my spirit: and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will show wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth beneath: blood and fire, and vapour of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the great and manifest day of the Lord to come. 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
22 You men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him, in the midst of you, as you also know: 23 This same being delivered up, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain. 24 Whom God has raised up, having loosed the sorrows of hell, as it was impossible that he should be holden by it. 25 For David says concerning him: I foresaw the Lord before my face: because he is at my right hand, that I may not be moved. 26 For this my heart has been glad, and my tongue has rejoiced: moreover my flesh also shall rest in hope. 27 Because you will not leave my soul in hell: nor suffer your Holy One to see corruption. 28 You have made known to me the ways of life: you shall make me full of joy with your countenance.
29 You men, brethren, let me freely speak to you of the patriarch David: that he died and was buried; and his sepulchre is with us to this present say. 30 Whereas therefore he was a prophet and knew that God has sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins one should sit upon his throne. 31 Foreseeing this, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ. For neither was he left in hell: neither did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus has God raised again, whereof all we are witnesses. 33 Being exalted therefore by the right hand of God and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has poured forth this which you see and hear. 34 For David ascended not into heaven; but he himself said: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit on my right hand, 35 until I make your enemies your footstool.
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know most certainly that God has made both Lord and Christ, this same Jesus, whom you have crucified.
37 Now when they had heard these things, they had compunction in their heart and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles: What shall we do, men and brethren? 38 But Peter said to them: Do penance: and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
[* By the determinate, etc… God delivered up his Son; and his Son delivered up himself, for the love of us, and for the sake of our salvation; and so Christ’s being delivered up was holy, and was God’s own determination. But they who betrayed and crucified him, did wickedly, following therein their own malice and the instigation of the devil; not the will and determination of God, who was by no means the author of their wickedness; though he permitted it; because he could, and did draw out of it so great a good, viz., the salvation of man. (Challoner)
* Having loosed the sorrow, etc… Having overcome the grievous pains of death and all the power of hell. (Challoner)]

Acts 10, 47
47 Then Peter answered: Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Ghost, as well as we?

Acts 19, 1 – 7
And it came to pass, while Apollo was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesus and found certain disciples. 2 And he said to them: Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? But they said to him: We have not so much as heard whether there be a Holy Ghost. 3 And he said: In what then were you baptized? Who said: In John’s baptism. 4 Then Paul said: John baptized the people with the baptism of penance saying: That they should believe in him, who was to come after him, that is to say, in Jesus. 5 Having heard these things, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had imposed his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came upon them: and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve.

Romans 8, 14 – 17
14 For whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again in fear: but you have received the spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry: Abba (Father). 16 For the Spirit himself gives testimony to our spirit that we are the sons of God. 17 And if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God and joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.
[The Spirit himself, etc… By the inward motions of divine love, and the peace of conscience, which the children of God experience, they have a kind of testimony of God’s favour; by which they are much strengthened in their hope of their justification and salvation; but yet not so as to pretend to an absolute assurance: which is not usually granted in this mortal life: during which we are taught to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Phil. 2.12. And that he that thinks himself to stand, must take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12. See also Romans 11:20-22. (Challoner)]

1 Corinthians 3, 16 – 17
16 Know you not that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 But if any man violate the temple of God, him shall God destroy. For the temple of God is holy, which you are.

1 Corinthians 6, 11. 20
11 And such some of you were. But you are washed: but you are sanctified: but you are justified: in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God.
20 For you are bought with a great price. Glorify and bear God in your body.

2 Corinthians 13, 13
13 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the charity of God and the communication of the Holy Ghost be with you all. Amen.
